BlackBerry shares up to 9 percents after Facebook announced its acquisition agreement with mobile messaging startup that is popular in the world, WhatsApp.

As reported earlier, Facebook officially acquired WhatsApp with a total value of $19 billion, consisting of $12 billion in stock in Facebook, $4 billion in cash and $3 billion more in the form of restricted stock granted to the founders specifically WhatsApp.

Facebook acquires WhatsApp surprised many people. This acquisition boost BlackBerry stock. BlackBerry shares jumped after the announcement raised to $9.82 at the close of trading in New York.

Investors seemed pleased that the competition of mobile chat application will be hot. BlackBerry itself has a mainstay chat application called BlackBerry Messaging (BBM).

BBM is the pioneer of mobile messaging services. But unfortunately not been able to overtake its base WhatsApp released in 2009. This is because once the BlackBerry reluctant to open up its services to users of other platforms.

Compared to BBM, WhatsApp away rapidly growing user base of about 450 million. Plaftorm cross application is compatible with the operating system iOS, Android, Windows and BlackBerry.

Unlike ordinary text messages (SMS) are paid, WhatsApp is given free for the first year and then you are required to pay the cost of 99 cents.
